The Story Behind Our Prints: Winter 2019

When we reach this time of year when it’s neither summer nor Christmas, the clocks go back and we’re saying goodbye to the sun – we want to fill the shops with cheerful prints and give our customer something to lift them. We think that this year our design team have surpassed themselves in delivering this. Here we speak to print designer Alice Preston about prints that are sure to lift your spirits.

“We have printed multiple versions of this hand-drawn ditsy print on some really exicitng leather bags. When you see them lined up they look like sweets on a table at Christmas. The roses appear to be whimsically blown across the print, and I think it’s nice to see all of those gorgeous background colours shining through – they are so bold and fun. We have also printed it onto gold leather, which looks so lush for Christmas in all its gold opulence.”

“On this one we have hedgehogs doing gardening activities. They are really super cute characters and each of them has an individual personality. People love the tongue-in-cheek element of our novelty prints. The background is based on our scattered spot, which is an archive print, but we created a new version with added texture. The way the spots are placed around the hedgehogs adds an extra detail, which makes it more modern and moves it on from the novelties we have done before.”

“This one is so gorgeous. We looked at all the chunky handwoven blankets out there. The classic old British checked ones that feel so homely and inviting. I think everyone is drawn to them especially in the colours they traditionally came in. This print is on bags and accessories, it looks amazing on the overnight bags. But also because it’s such a cool print, if you take a section of it for a smaller accessory it just looks like a fun geometric.”

All of our rich new winter prints are available on a range of bags, accessories, fashion and home décor. Which of these prints will you be wearing in the coming season? Make sure to share any pictures with us using #MustBeCathKidston.
