Every print needs a partner, and this season we’ve designed the perfect colourful, creative couple. Here’s a tale of two of our unique AW16 prints – introducing Story Books and Pencils.
Our latest collection was inspired by our love of fairytales and story-telling, so in amongst the classic florals and spots this season you’ll find an enchanted forest print that was the setting for our own AW16 adventure, as well as designs based on the woodland creatures we encountered there. We’ve also created a print directly inspired by the favourite tales that helped to shape our childhoods: Story Books. We drew up our dream library brimming with colourful books, including some of our own published titles – look out for copies of ‘Coming up Roses’ and ‘Make!’ on the shelves, as well as bookends shaped like Billie the dog. The print also references our own collection of design inspiration titles, with higgledy piggledy stacks of books tumbling off the crowded shelves and well-thumbed favourites left open and waiting to be discovered anew.
Take a leaf out of our Story Books with fashion and accessories that aren’t just for bookworms. Carry the mini reversible messenger or large tote as your book bag and cover your Kindle with the real deal – our protective case covered with Story Books. The print also pops up on our bestselling barkcloth dress and flared skirt this season, plus notebooks for writing your own story – or sketching…
…speaking of which, many of our prints start life as beautiful hand-drawn pencil sketches, so Pencils print pays a little tribute to our talented designers. There are pots and cases of pencils within Story Books print too, tying the two designs even closer together. We also drew on childhood memories of rainy afternoons spent drawing and colouring whilst surrounded by pencils and crayons to create our playful, scattered Pencils layout.
You’ll look sharp in crisp cotton Pencils shirt dresses and skirts, but be quick – they’ve been so popular! We also designed some cute and quirky Pencils placements for cosy navy knits – find neat colour-coded rows on a jumper and more peeking from the pockets of a slouchy oversized cardi. Both have been trending on social lately – take a look at fashion bloggers @meganellaby and @theurbanslang for ways to wear. Megan Ellaby also loves our playful, Pencils embroidered flat pumps – Story Books and Pencils pieces are the ideal way to add a little creative flair and personality to a plain outfit.
