Colourful spots have been a Cath Kidston favourite since we first introduced them back in 2002. They’re an an essential part of every print story we create, not least our latest Disney x Cath Kidston collection starring Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. Lately we’ve been having fun designing new style polka dots – “spot” Disney’s most iconic characters amongst these playful new versions of our classic print!
Look closely and you’ll see that Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse’s heads are composed of three circles – two for their ears and one for their faces – something that’s helped these characters to become instantly recognisable, even in silhouette form. Their graphic shape also means that they make the perfect partner to our spots, and slot perfectly into a playful new version of the print featuring their cheerful faces both in profile and face on. The colour palette for Minnie and Mickey Spot is as bold and simple as the design itself, with just three colours used for the characters’ faces and two classic background colourways, red and blue. For our upcoming, limited edition collection these spots are scattered over limited edition accessories and stationery guaranteed to brighten up your day.
We had so much fun giving life to Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse by playing with different interpretations of these beloved characters. Their figures appear throughout the floral and scenic prints in the Mickey Mouse x Cath Kidston collection, and creating Minnie and Mickey Spot print gave us a taste for using their familiar faces to make a bold, graphic statement in print. Here’s another version of our Spot print that we think you’ll love just as much. For Spot Mickey and Spot Minnie our colourful spots act as backdrops to Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse’s faces, seen here blown up extra large.
We love these fun placement prints, so you’ll find Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse peeping playfully throughout the collection. We’ve used them in lots of different scales, from mini on mugs to medium on iPad cases and zip purses, large on book bags and kids’ backpacks and larger still on tea towels! Besides the same shades of cheerful red and bright blue we created for Minnie and Mickey Spot, there’s a chic navy for must-have Minnie Mouse fashion.
