How To Transition Your Wardrobe For Autumn

With the cooler months rolling in, it’s time to start thinking about switching up our wardrobes to suit the season. Leaves are starting to fall and we’re all nervously waiting for the first Christmas advert to cross our screens, meaning it’s time to put away the swimwear and pull out the knitwear. Here are our top tips for transitioning your wardrobe for autumn.

Layering

When you can’t quite give up all your summer clothes, instead start thinking about layering up lighter pieces in case of colder weather. Pair a skirt with a shirt and jumper, taking our lightweight taupe trench with you to layer on top when needed. There’s a Freston print surprise hiding inside of our new trenches which we absolutely love. Chunky boots add an autumnal feel as well as keeping your feet nice and warm, but if you’re off somewhere muddy be sure to pack a pair of our Freston wellies. As we head further into the season, swap out skirts for jeans and add your favourite woolly accessories.

Textures

With autumn comes a variety of warmer textures to experiment with. Pair luxurious leathers with rustic tweeds (say hello to our gorgeous new navy tweed skirt) or soft denims against chunky knits. Clashing textures creates depth to an outfit and makes mixing and matching neutral colours more exciting, plus all these cosy layers are bound to keep you warm!

Colours

With the summer sun beaming, it’s great fun to play around with bright colours and statement patterns. However, as the year winds down and temperatures drop, a more neutral colour palette is called for. Staples like blacks, whites and greys can be layered up with our new navy and taupe colourways. Then weave in a soft pop of colour, a subtle print works perfectly for this and adds a touch of personality to any outfit! Our Tall Freston Tote with Somerset Rose layered over the top is perfect for this and don’t forget your sunglasses for that delightful winter sun.

As we head into October, start to add in more burgundies and warm oranges to really go into full autumnal mode. Luckily for you, they’re colours you’ll be seeing in our upcoming collections pretty soon!

Accessories

Warm summer days meant leaving the house with just a phone and keys in a clutch bag! It’s now time to switch things up to make sure you’re prepared for the autumn weather. Grab a roomy tote and make sure to pack all the autumn essentials, our Freston totes have a zip closure giving you extra security. Starting with an umbrella, need we say more? Swap a card holder for a larger wallet, you’ll thank us when you start accumulating gift receipts for the incoming festive shopping season! Keep a cute hat and scarf at hand for those nippy mornings and blustery evenings and why not also throw in a re-usable travel cup, you never know when a warming spiced latte might be needed!

With our autumn wardrobe prepared we’re ready for long walks in the park, cosy afternoons in and plenty of Sunday roasts! Do you have any other tips for updating your outfits for autumn, we’d love to hear them over on Twitter @Cath_Kidston!
